Second Sr. from Class of 2019 Appointed to Military Academy

We are pleased to announce that Wesleyan Christian Academy Senior John Linton has been appointed to the United States Military Academy at West Point, beginning Fall 2019. After receiving a congressional nomination to West Point in February from Congressman Ted Budd, Linton received a call from the congressman last Thursday, March 21, to share the good news.

John joins Maddie Cashion, who was appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy in February, as the second senior from the Class of 2019 to be accepted to a U.S. Service Academy this year. Bill Linton, John's father, shared that he and his wife are, "completely overjoyed for our son. And though we were confident in John, if we were nervous, it was that they wouldn't accept two candidates from the same school into U.S. service academies in one year. But thankfully they did. And It's truly a credit to the school and the types of young men and women Wesleyan is turning out."

"John enrolled in Wesleyan at just six months old in the Early Education Center and Maddie began attending WCA in first grade," said Dr. Rob Brown, Head of School. "So while we are blessed when any of our graduates attend the college of their choice when you watch young people who have grown up at Wesleyan achieve such an honor, it's a very special moment for every member of our staff who has taught and invested in all of our kids.  We are excited and can't wait to see how the Lord will bless and use John, Maddie, and every one of our incredible seniors in the years to come."

Guidance Counselor Michelle Ledbetter witnessed the diligence both candidates demonstrated during this process, "Their efforts in the application process required much more time, energy, and emotional stress than the normal college application. They both had to receive a nomination from a congressman, pass a physical test, secure recommendation letters from teachers and counselors, and undergo an extensive interview. It is a great honor for them to receive this appointment and a great honor for us too."

Principal Tim Rickman added, "It is always exciting to see one of our own students receive an appointment to a prestigious U.S. service academy. We are thrilled for the Cashion and Linton families and will be watching with great anticipation to see what God does in and through this young man and woman in the years ahead."
