Art Lessons

BASICS OF DRAWING

Our Basics of Drawing class teaches students fundamental painting techniques and allows them to experiment with and manipulate different types of paint. Students will create paintings from everyday life as well as their limitless imaginations. A total of four paintings will be created during the 8-week-course using acrylic, oil, watercolor, and wax paints.

Kathryn Chaney - Elementary and Middle School Art Teacher

Originally from Greensboro, NC, Ms. Chaney is Wesleyan’s elementary and middle school art teacher. She completed her BFA in Art Education at UNC-Greensboro. Her experience includes art education with kindergarten through high school, utilizing mediums such as drawing, painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, and mixed media sculptures. Kathryn has also served as Arts & Crafts Director and Basics of Photography instructor at local camps.

She believes art is not only a way of expression and an outlet for students, but also a form of worship to our Creator. While creating art, students gain a greater appreciation for our Heavenly Father and the works of His hands. Art allows us to see the world differently and experience life more fully. It is intertwined in all areas including math, science, social studies, and language arts. As students are exposed to various forms of art, they grow into well-rounded individuals.
