meet our school chaplain
The Lord richly blessed our school when Pastor Deon Parker joined the Wesleyan family as Spiritual Life Director/Chaplain in June 2020. Below you will find a letter from Deon, sharing more about himself as well as his personal testimony. We are truly blessed to have this loving and bold man of God with us as we seek to point our students toward a lifelong relationship with Christ.
“The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.”
– Psalm 145:8-9 (NIV)
From Pastor Deon Parker...
I grew up in a two-parent, Christian home, attended Church services weekly, was a Scholar Athlete throughout High School and was well-liked by my peers. So, on the outside, everything in my life seemed to be perfect. But things are not always as they seem. I was blessed with Christian parents, but I frequently disobeyed them. I was in Church every Sunday and Wednesday, but I was apathetic about the God of the Church. God gave me exceptional athletic ability, but I worshiped my ability and accomplishments instead of Him. I had several close relationships, but few of them were healthy. I was a lost young man, who was blind to the signs that led home.
After a series of life-altering events that I experienced during my High School years and after a series of enlightening Chapels that I attended during my Freshman year in College, God awakened me to my desperate need of a lifesaving relationship with Him. God lovingly, mercifully and graciously reminded me that He could rescue me from spiritual orphancy. How? Over 2,000 years ago, Jesus Christ–God in the flesh, came to Earth, lived a sinless life, voluntarily died for my sins (and the sins of all humanity) and rose from death. By trusting in Christ as Savior and Lord, all of my sins would be forgiven, my soul would be saved, I would be filled with God’s Holy Spirit and I would spend eternity with Christ and all resurrected Christians in Heaven. So, I placed my faith in and pledged my allegiance to Christ. As my 19th birthday drew near, I became spiritually reborn in Christ, no longer a spiritual orphan, but adopted as a child of God into the family of God.
God didn’t quit on me during my season of ignorance. In spite of my years of rebellion, God loved me, wooed me and won me over. Because of Christ, my parents have a Christian son, my wife has a Christian husband, my children have a Christian dad and Wesleyan Christian Academy has a Christian Spiritual Life Director (Chaplain). Because of Christ, I am on a victorious journey. Because of Christ, I am becoming exactly who God created me to be. Because of Christ, I now and forever live for His glory and for the good of all humanity.
Gratefully serving Christ and the WCA family,
Deon Parker
